Making Sonoma County’s Streets Safe for Everyone!

Last year 200 people were killed or seriously injured on Sonoma County roads. We can end that. That’s why the Sonoma County Department of Health Services and the Sonoma County Transportation Authority are teaming up to create Sonoma County Vision Zero—to bring traffic deaths and injuries down to zero.

You can help! We’ve created a short survey for people to show where (and how) we should focus our efforts to make our streets safe for bikers, walkers, rollers, drivers—everyone!

Share your ideas, and share the survey with folks you know! Responses are due November 7th.

Attention TK-2nd Grade Families

The Staff Appreciation Committee is collecting monetary donations from the TK through 2nd grade families who are able to do so. The suggested donation is $10, but any amount is appreciated. They will be providing food and drinks in the staff room for teachers on Monday, October 25th.

This coming week October 10-16 is the Week of the Administrator

This is a week for families and students to show appreciation for our school leaders.  For McKinley, this is our Principal, Ani Larson.

We are so grateful to have Ms. Larson leading our educators and students.  Ms. Larson is approachable, thoughtful and an inspiration in how to create an inclusive school community.  But she’s not just filled with empathy and wisdom.  She’s also incredibly silly and kid-friendly. How many other principals in Petaluma can be found on roller skates in a T-Rex costume?!  Or are willing to have pies tossed at her year after year all in the name of raising much needed funds to support each child’s education?!

To honor Ms. Larson, the PTA would like to provide lunch for her each day of the week.  If you’re interested in volunteering to bring lunch for Ms. Larson one day next week, please sign up here: Sign Up Genius- Lunch for Ms. Larson

If you’d like to contribute to an appreciation gift for Ms. Larson, please do so by donating here by Tuesday, October 12.

Less than a week left to raise funds for our Jog-a-thon!

It’s Not Too Late to Raise Funds!

The PTA’s biggest annual fundraiser is this Friday, October 1! So far, we’ve received around $17,500 in pledges. But we need your help to reach our goal of $60,000 this year. Remember, these funds go to important causes, like experiential learning field trips, classroom tools, school and campus beautification (including our awesome garden/outdoor classroom), and much more.

Remember to create your child’s pledge page here and share with friends near and far via email and social media.

Are your friends and family old school? Use your Jog-A-Thon envelope to collect checks and cash. Make checks payable to McKinley PTA. Be sure to return the envelope to school on the date of our event, October 1.

Help Us Raise Jog-A-Thon Funds and Qualify for These Great Incentives!

Did you know your child can earn some fantastic prizes by raising money for the Jog-A-Thon? The incentives include:

Individual Student Incentives:

  • Every child who raises any amount of funds will get a ticket for a classroom lottery and one additional ticket for every $20 raised.
  • Students who hit the per student goal of $150 will receive a one-day “no homework” pass from their teacher.
  • There will be two lottery winners from each class.
    • The first ticket drawn will get to take one friend to Yogurtland with Mrs. Larson.
    • The second ticket drawn will represent their classroom in a MINUTE TO WIN IT assembly. *The second drawing only happens if we raise $55,000 collectively as a school.

Grade-level incentives (TK and Kinder are combined as one grade level):

  • If every student participates in fundraising, that grade will receive a special, 45-minute recess.
  • The grade level to raise the most money overall (on a per student basis), will receive a pizza party!

School-wide incentives:

  • If we raise $50,000 all students will receive a special, 1-hour recess with a Popsicle
  • If we raise $55,000, above PLUS – the teachers will host MINUTE TO WIN IT GAMES
  • If we reach our goal $60,000, above PLUS – students will get to throw whip cream pies at Ms. Larson while she is on roller skates

If we reach our stretch goal of $65,000 – all the above PLUS students will get to have a NINJA WARRIOR BLOW UP COURSE during a special recess.

We Need Jog-a-thon Volunteers at Pick-up and Drop-Off This Week

We need a few folks to help generate some excitement for the McKinley/PACS Jog-a-thon!

Volunteers are needed on campus for just 30 minutes during drop-off and pick-up during the final days leading up to the event, reminding people to turn in their donations in a fun and energetic way.

What we’ll provide: pre-made signs, available in the front office

What you’ll need: a willingness to get silly and make yourself seen — you can bring a speaker to play music and dance, or wear something goofy, or just throw on your Spirit Wear and shake your sign!

Sign up to volunteer now!

The PTA needs two minutes of your time!

TL;DR:Please fill out this quick form with your contact details so you can get updates from your class parent from time to time.

Did you know that each classroom at McKinley/PACS has a PTA class liaison (parent/guardian volunteer) who is the point of contact for the PTA in your classrooms? These volunteers will stay up-to-date on all the happenings with the PTA, help coordinate for things like teacher appreciation and class promotions,  and help identify classroom needs.

The PTA class liaison will need to send out email messages from time to time to your entire class, and we need your information to do that!

Please fill out THIS FORM. You’ll only need to fill it out once for all your students enrolled at McKinley/PACS.

Speaking of PTA class liaisons, we still need parent/guardian volunteers for the following classrooms:
First grade – Loughlin
Fourth grade – Cantor
Fifth grade – Solis
Sixth grade – Caamano

If you’d like to volunteer as a class liaison for your classroom, please email Emily Oh at

Bilingual Virtual Bingo Night – Friday, September 17th 5:00pm

The PTA Family Engagement Committee alongside Erin Schlueter and Alise Roach are excited to host a Bilingual Virtual Bingo Night on Friday September 17th at 5pm.

Last school year we connected over 60 participants for a virtual game night via Zoom, and we are so happy to bring this event to our community again. We look forward to welcoming new families to McKinley, as well as reconnecting with peers from previous years.

The wonderful Mrs. Lupe Diaz will be working with us, side by side, translating in Spanish, so all families can participate.

WIN PRIZES… including gift cards to Fruta, El Roy’s, Hector’s Pizza, Copperfields Books, Red Boy, Baskin Robbins and more!

Lastly (and very importantly): Is 5pm – 6pm your dinnertime? Ours too! We will be partnering with a local pizza place to offer a discount on pizza you can pick up or have delivered on 9/17.

*NEXT WEEK: Look for Bingo Cards, the Zoom Link & a Pizza Coupon to come home in your Wednesday folder on 9/15. We will have extra Bingo cards, Zoom info and coupons in the McKinley Breezeway (outside the office) Wednesday September 15th – Friday September 17th.

Children are encouraged to participate! We hope to “see” you there!

We’ve gathered all the ways to stay connected and help the PTA in one spot. Check it out!

Earn Donations for McKinley Without Spending Extra $$$

We have several ways for you to earn donations for McKinley/PACS without needing to spend beyond your budget.

  1. Amazon Smile: If you make purchases through Amazon, make sure to shop through smile.amazon.com and designate McKinley/PACS PTA Petaluma as your charity. Make sure to configure your Amazon App to give to McKinley as well! Full instructions are here.
  2. BoxTops: Scan your grocery receipts using the BoxTops app. No more clipping and collecting BoxTops! Simply download the BoxTops app on your phone and use it to scan your receipts after you shop. Full instructions are here.
  3. Dine and Donate: Planning on going out to dinner? Once a month the PTA partners with a local restaurant or business to receive a portion of their sales. See the Dine and Donate section of the PTA website for all upcoming events.

We are looking for volunteers!

The PTA has planned many initiatives throughout the school year, and we can’t do our work without our wonderful volunteers.

We have several opportunities for volunteers including:

  • Traffic Flow/Safe Routes to School
  • Science Night
  • School Clean Up
  • Red Ribbon Week (October 23-31)
